Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/hōdaz
(Redirected from Appendix:Proto-Germanic/hōdaz)
Proto-Germanic
editEtymology
editTraditionally derived from Proto-Indo-European *kadʰ- (“to cover, protect”) and compared to Latin cassis (“helmet”). However, Kroonen reconstructs the Proto-Indo-European form as *koHt-ó- instead, and links the root to Proto-Germanic *hattuz (“hat”); see there for more.[1]
