 Beamter on German Wikipedia

Etymology edit

Irregular formation from beamt (holding an office) +‎ -in (suffix for female nouns). The regular female nominalisation of beamt is Beamte, the suffix -in is not normally attached to nominalisations from adjectives.

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /bəˈʔamtɪn/
  • (file)
  • Hyphenation: Be‧am‧tin

Noun edit

Beamtin f (genitive Beamtin, plural Beamtinnen, masculine Beamter)

  1. civil servant, public servant (female)

Usage notes edit

While this term violates standard German grammar, it is the form usually used in legal texts, having replaced the proper female form of Beamter, Beamte.
