From the German word begleiten ("to accompany", or more figurativeely, "to walk hand in hand together"). Used by the European Alliance of YMCAs in the context of people development.

  1. Accompaniment. It implies the need to work with, rather than for people - to "get alongside" people and work in true partnership with them.
  2. The act of enabling individuals and communities to become more included and active citizens.
