Dutch edit

Etymology edit

First attested as bursbergen in 1387. If the oldest attestation of the toponym refers to the current settlement, a derivation from a compound of Middle Dutch brus (brushwood, bushes) and berg (hill, elevated place) is possible. Compare Beuseberg and Buurse.

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /ˌbøːsˈbɛr.ɣə(n)/
  • Hyphenation: Beus‧ber‧gen
  • Rhymes: -ɛrɣən
