From Old English Cyningesburh, from cyninges (“king's”) + burh (“fort; manor; town”). Doublet of Kingsbury, Kingsberry, Kingsburg, and Kingsburgh. Cf. also Kingstown, Kingston, Kingstone, Kingsville, Coniston, Coniston Cold, Coningsby, and Conington.
