Dutch edit

Etymology edit

First attested as wapenreyse in 1460. Etymology uncertain. A compound of Middle Dutch *wapen (stagnant water, swamp) and reis (elevated place) is unlikely because of a lack of attestations of the components. Compare Wapenveld.

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /də ˈʋoː.pəˌrɛi̯s/
  • Hyphenation: De Wo‧per‧eis

Proper noun edit

De Wopereis n

  1. A hamlet in Oost Gelre, Gelderland, Netherlands.
