Gerstner wave (plural Gerstner waves)

1. (fluid dynamics) An exact solution of the Euler equations for periodic surface gravity waves, describing a progressive wave of permanent form on the surface of an incompressible fluid of infinite depth.

   Synonym: trochoidal wave
