Scottish Gaelic leamhnachd +‎ -town (possibly developed with the interfix -s-, leading to the modern term being spelled with an 'x'), a partial calque of Scottish Gaelic Baile na Leamhnachd, composed of Scottish Gaelic baile (town, village) +‎ Scottish Gaelic na (of) +‎ Scottish Gaelic leamhnachd (new/fresh/raw milk), literally town of new/fresh/raw milk, related to Irish leamhnacht (new/fresh/raw milk).
