Philippine Hokkien 泛, 現, 喝, 遐

@Mlgc1998, Mar vin kaiser Are these h- series ones actually equivalent to 這麼, or should it be equivalent to 那麼? (English so/such doesn't have a distal/proximal distinction, so I was wondering.) — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 14:24, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: At least the way it's used for us, there's hardly a distinction, I think. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:30, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: Hmm, but I wonder if they should all be both here and at the 那麼 page (which doesn't exist yet) just because of the "morphology". I think I would want to be more conservative and say these h- versions are equivalent to 那麼 rather than lumping them all here. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 14:36, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
福建晋江话的指示词 by 林天送 seems to treat hoan (奂) and hoah (喝) as distal (那麼). — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 14:40, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung Oh, I was wondering about that too, but since there's no 那麼 page yet, I put it on this 這麼 page for the time being, since I was not sure if someone will make a 那麼 page, since this 這麼 page described it in English initially as "so; such (modifies adj.)". If there will be a 那麼 page equivalent to English saying like "that expensive!; so expensive!" or "that good!; so good!" or etc., rather than "this expensive!; so expensive!" or "this good!" or etc., then yeah probably can have the equivalent distal/proximal distinction where they're supposed to be. When we hear from other Ph Hokkien speakers, they seem to usually not see a distinction much, since the usage expresses fairly the same idea. For (hoah) and (hiah), if a 那麼 page is to be made, then they'd surely be there instead. For [script needed] (hoàn) and [script needed] (hiàn), not too sure what the specific semantic difference between these besides that many Ph Hokkien speakers like to frequently use them, at least from a groupchat poll we observed, to generally mean "so [adj]" and normally, many speakers don't seem to see much difference with the terms that mean "very [adj]" and "too [adj]" due to very similar usages.
