Reconstruction:Proto-Bantu/-jípata
Proto-Bantu edit
Verb edit
*-jípata (infinitive *kʊ̀ )[1]
- to hold
Reconstruction notes edit
Although the first syllable is lost in most reflexes, its existence is revealed by its effects on the first consonant in some languages (e.g. Shona -bata and Sotho tshwara). Thus, this stem can be analyzed as a root *-jíp- with the tentive (contactive) extension *-at-.
