Etymology

Clipping of Deutschland. First popularised during the 2006 World Cup by entertainer Stefan Raab and said to have been coined by him. Perhaps ultimately from a certain popular chant which involves a series of rhythmic claps followed by Deutschland! with strong stress on the second syllable. Compare also English Ingerland or American English 'Murica
