Descendants

Arabic or Indo-European originally?

If میدان and میان have the Indo-European root *médʰyos essentially signifying *middle*, then a claimed derivation from Arabic would need more evidence than a plain assertion, since on the face of it the opposite direction is more plausible. It is not impossible, as for example the Russian/Ukrainian майдан seems to have arrived via a Turkic language, but it is unlikely. 22:56, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

Fix your logics. The inherited Persian is میان (miyān). The ay diphthong, Arabic Hobson-Jobson, also shows that the Persian میدان (maydān) is from Arabic and not from another Iranian language. Fay Freak (talk) 23:59, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
