Template:ja-see problem

@Suzukaze-c, I suspect some of your recent hyphen-related efforts might be the issue here. I noticed at the lemma entry シス-トランス異性 that the {{ja-noun}}-generated hiragana are appearing as a redlink, even though this entry here clearly exists. Clicking on the hiragana at シス-トランス異性 takes me to シストランスいせい instead of the expected hyphenated form シス-トランスいせい.

@Eirikr: I'm not sure what you mean by "hyphen-related efforts".

For シス-トランスいせいたい, I made speculation and tried looking at the module code (Wiktionary:Requests_for_cleanup#シス-トランスいせいたい), but ultimately I don't know how to fix it. The code is complex.

I suppose with your observation, there are problems actually both with {{ja-see}} and with {{ja-noun}}. —Suzukaze-c (talk) 07:31, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

@Suzukaze-c: I'd thought from some of your other comments in other threads regarding hyphens in pronunciation sections that you were active more broadly in dealing with hyphens in code, but it appears I was mistaken.  :)

I think you're probably right about issues in both templates. And I've been growing increasingly concerned that our module infrastructure, while very useful, is also very spaghettified, and it's growing harder and harder to identify where in the code issues are being caused.

@Eirikr: Module:ja-see is just too complex for me to understand, not necessarily spaghetti. It does a lot of stuff with tables that I don't (have the time to) understand. —Suzukaze-c (talk) 07:26, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

@Suzukaze-c, Eirikr The reason it breaks is because remove_ruby_markup in Module:ja removes hyphens and Module:ja-see calls it to clean up kana spellings, thus it thinks the kana spelling is *シストランスいせい (without a hyphen). I don't know enough about ruby syntax to tell if and when exempting hyphens would be a valid option, nor about the safety of removing hyphens from the title for purposes of comparison. — surjection ⟨??⟩ 22:53, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
