@Justinrleung Do you have any insight regarding this word? —Suzukaze-c 06:21, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Suzukaze-c: Not sure. It seems to be used in Malaysia to mean something like "jungle ~ forest ~ uncultivated land". It could be written as 山芭, 山巴, 山笆 or 山岜. 马来西亚华语词语研究 says it's from Cantonese, but it seems unlikely. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 07:36, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I found that 《泰国的三个汉语方言》 mentions the Thai words /ba51/ on p238 for "countryside", and /ba51 no51/ for "mountain" on page 231. @Octahedron80 do you have any insight? —Suzukaze-c 21:40, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thai have สวน (garden) and ป่า (forest), both from Proto-Tai. But they are not related with any countryside/mountain. Perhaps 山巴 is just borrowing pronunciation form สวน+ป่า? I had never heard 山巴 before. --Octahedron80 (talk) 13:11, 16 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

《漢語方言大詞典》 (中華書局, 1999), Page 351 records 山芭 as "countryside; wilderness", from Guangzhou Cantonese. KevinUp (talk) 10:27, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
