editFrom Proto-Tai *swɯːnᴬ (“garden”). Compare Middle Chinese 園 (MC hjwon, “garden”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩈ᩠ᩅᩁ, Lao ສວນ (sūan), Lü ᦷᦉᧃ (ṡon), Shan သူၼ် (sǔun), Ahom 𑜏𑜤𑜃𑜫 (sun), Zhuang suen.
