"The act of dating." Equinox 16:33, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Google books and google groups:"his|her social lives" have no relevant hits.—msh210 (talk) 19:01, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
I think it is often a code for "dating" or "sex life" depending on the marital status and age of the referent. It is not an "act". DCDuring TALK 19:48, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
I have cited a sense that is "dating/mating". Sense 1 says that it is an activity engaged in for "pleasure". There seems to be a lot of usage that implies it is undertaken for "mental health" apparently whether of not it gives pleasure. Also there are abundant references to a person's job being their social life. DCDuring TALK 20:32, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
The three cites given for the new "dating" sense all seem to match the existing first sense perfectly.—msh210 (talk) 20:36, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
They are certainly included in a broad reading of sense 1. What seemed distinctive is the assumption by the speakers/writers that the only important part of a social life had to do with dating/mating. There are many uses where social life seems to include dating and some where it includes all aspects of a social life broadly defined except dating. If sense 1 were more satisfactory (ie, not being so vague, not getting into motivation), maybe the contributor of sense 2 and I wouldn't have bothered. DCDuring TALK 20:56, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
The WP dab page refers to social relations and interpersonal relationships. BTW, Macmillan has a special subsense to encompass the usage: "I want to go to a college that has a good social life." DCDuring TALK 21:00, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
None of the citations back up "dating" so much as just "going out and interacting with people". I've never heard of this sense, and none of the citations convince me it exists - far from it. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:59, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
DCDuring (talkcontribs) added three more citations after the last comment above. Personally, I find them convincing, but I'll wait a week or so before marking this RFV passed, to make sure no one objects. —RuakhTALK 01:38, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

RFV passed. But I removed the sense that was tagged ("The act of dating") because it was superseded by the sense that DCDuring added and cited ("Dating"). Thanks, DCDuring! —RuakhTALK 22:08, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
