Arikaans etymologies

Arikaans etymologies

Do you know if it is accurate to say that an Afrikaans word comes from Dutch? Or do they come from Middle Dutch or something like that?

Well, Dutch people didn't go to South Africa before the year 1500, so it would have to be considered a descendant of modern Dutch. It came from Middle Dutch too, of course, as the Dutch spoken in the year 1500 is the ancestor of both current Dutch and Afrikaans.

So if there is an Afrikaans word that came from a Dutch word that is now obsolete in Dutch, how should the etymology reflect that?

Probably something like:

From {{etyl|nl|af}} {{term|word|lang=nl}} (now obsolete).

Ok, just wondering.
