Hi! How come a text about Norse languages is using a Maori term? Equinox ◑ 11:01, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- The term is derived from Maori but it is commonly used in northern Europe to talk about words used by hunters, fishermen etc to talk about things which have taboo names. Like the island of Eigg for some reason was taboo amongst Gaelic speaking fishermen, so the term "Eilean nam Ban Móra" (The Island of Big Women) was used instead. These are commonly referred to as noa terms in the literature hereabouts. Akerbeltz (talk) 11:04, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
