Welcome
editHello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Lithuanian IPA
editHello! I've been adding IPA transcriptions to Lithuanian entries, and I would like to ask for your assistance. Could you take a look at Special:Contributions/JimiYoru and verify whether the pronunciation transcriptions are correct? Considering my limited knowledge and the sources I have, I only added phonetic transcriptions (non-phonemic). Thank you in advance. JimiY☽ru 06:55, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! Sorry for my late reply, I've been inactive lately; that's okay, I'll try to do what I can! Anatolijs LTV (talk) 20:01, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Honestly, I prefer adding transcriptions in [], although // is more accurate. Anatolijs LTV (talk) 20:09, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Would you like to help me clean up the mess @Juliusmborris has been making? Their entries don't please me at all. Anatolijs LTV (talk) 20:12, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for your reply. As my response is delayed as well, regardless of whether the clean-up has been finished or not, I'm afraid I cannot join since there are numerous LT entries that I want to expand, as well as create new ones. If I come across an edit that I find unsatisfactory I'll make sure to correct it. Cheers and Happy New Year, JimiY☽ru 21:35, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
Latvian IPAs
editHello! I've noticed a some of the Latvian IPA entries you've added misuse the wide E /æ/ where they would typically have the narrow E. There may definitely be some dialects I've heard from a few people (closer to Latgale, perhaps) where the wide E is used in place of the narrow E a lot, but those definitely don't sound "natural" to me. There are some resources suchas this one that may be of help for determining proper usage of the wide/narrow E. I've fixed the entries for maijpuķīte, diskutēt, alfabēts, iespēt currently, not sure if there are other pages that may also need to be fixed. –EdnessP (talk) 14:14, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the correction, I think my material is a bit outdated. Anatolijs LTV (talk) 15:39, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
