Hello Mr. Hodgson,

I got your e-mail this morning regarding hyena. Because I used the [rollback] button, I was not able to provide a comment as to why I had rolled your edit back. Looking at it now, I am unclear why I did so - perhaps due to similar looking vandalism edits at the same time. As my rollback of your change does seem to have been erroneous, I have restored it now. Because of the external link to your website, others may have moderate concerns about the edits. In general, using Wiktionary to promote other web sites is discouraged, but the relevance seems legitimate. Sorry but

Hi Mr. Hodgson, I'm sorry but I'm going to remove all the external links which you added. It might appear beneficial to wiktionary to have this kind of link, but if we accept yours, we will have to accept them from anyone who wants to promote a word-related site. As you are probably aware, wiktionary has a high google ranking and there is a great incentive for webmasters to add links to their sites. The danger is that wiktionary becomes a "link farm", which is harmful to its credibility and requires a great deal of time to clean up. This has certainly been my experience at wikipedia.

Wiktionary doesn't appear to have a policy on this, so you can manually replace the links if you want to, but I recommend checking at the beer parlour first, and I'm confident the community will endorse my position. Kappa 12:24, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
