Please refrain from edits like the ones you've doing, where you change wording that has to do with gender. Edits such as these will always be reverted, so please redirect your attention and efforts to improving entries not politicising them any more than they already are. --Robbie SWE (talk) 13:57, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Changing the ways pronouns are used in definitions

edit

Hello there, I want to start off by thanking you for your contributions to the English Wiktionary. It is always good to have another person working to improve this dictionary of ours! I noticed that in edits like this one you have changed the generic use of them in definitions. I would generally discourage changes like this because the use of them (and the related they) when referring to an unspecified person is common for many English speakers. Since Wiktionary aims to describe language rather that set rules on what good writing looks, both in the content and style of the dictionary, changes like these indirectly push against that goal. If you are interested in creating a policy outlining a standard way that definitions should be written on Wiktionary, I would recommend starting a discussion at Wiktionary:Beer parlour. Thanks and take care. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 20:10, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
