Wehe is first attested as uuie in the 10th or 11th century. den Hoorn is first attested as up de horne in 1398. Wehe is derived from Old Frisian wie (shrine, temple). den Hoorn is derived from the dative singular form of horn (bend, corner). Compare for Wehe Wijhe and Wye.
