Etymology edit

First attested as d'burscapp wertzingehusen in 1472. Compound of Proto-Germanic *Wirki (“a personal name”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix *ingja- and the plural form of huis (“house”). Compare Wessingtange and Wetsinge.
