Request to match Wikipedia username. Thank you.

Are you sure you typed it correctly? There is no such username at enwik. —Stephen (Talk) 20:48, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I started renaming Vitalik7 → Vitalik on other wiki-projects (as for now it's done only for ruwiki). Can you rename me here? Thanks! — Vitalik7 (talk) 09:16, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notes: User:Vitalik doesn't exist here yet. I have created SUL Vitalik: toolserver.org/Vitalik. I have more than 1000 edit count on ruwiktionary: toolserver.org/Vitalik7. After renaming "Vitalik7 → Vitalik" here I will join it to my SUL account. Thanks. - Vitalik7 (talk) 11:53, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I hold the unified login SamB[[1]], and user:SamB here supposedly made an edit to an article back in 2009, but there's no public record of what that edit was, and he or she does not appear to have any other history here. I'm fairly certain that I've allowed sufficient time for them to respond to my warning here, so could you please do the rename now? --RealSamB (talk) 23:38, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to have the same name for all Wikis (I am aware it's my real name).

Done. (You do realize that we can only change your name for this Wiki, don’t you? You have to ask each Wiki individually.) —Stephen (Talk) 21:48, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know. In any case, thanks for changing it. :D

Unifying my SUL - I'm en:User:Scott. I notified the existing "Scott" account, which was created in 2006 and has no edits, a week ago, and have not received an objection. — Scott talk 09:13, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I wish to usurp the target user account to complete 'Single Unified Login'. I'm the owner of User:Anup's 'SUL' and have got the target username usurped on multiple Wikimedia projects. I wish to take over the username 'Anup' here as well (diff. link on en-wiki (home project) of usurpation). I've just posted the usurpation notice on target user account's talk page. They do not appear to have email feature enabled. Please do let me know if I missed something in my this request. IndianWikipedian (talk) 11:08, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I am working on it. In trying to complete your rename, I have received an error message that says "The chosen username is too similar to existing usernames." I am looking into what can be done about this. Please bear with me. —Stephen (Talk) 16:22, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am still checking, but I suspect that you will not be able to use the name User:Anup. On this page, it states that "a global rename is not technically possible if there are attached or unattached accounts associated with the target username". The name that you want to usurp, User:Anup, is an unattached account. In 2007, we did not have global accounts. I don’t think I have any way to delete, change, or usurp this unattached account now. If I learn of a way to do it, I will let you know, but you may have to select a different name. —Stephen (Talk) 17:34, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There appears to be some confusion. You've globally renamed my User:Anup to User:Anup (usurp). I really didn't ask you to rename my existing User:Anup on other projects but User:IndianWikipedian on this project. If it could not be done, Just say no and let me at least have User:Anup SUL on other attached projects.
And, If you ask me, I've a solution. If you had just renamed my User:IndianWikipedian to User:Anup here (not global, because I already had them). I could be able to attach it with my existing SUL using password method. You've messed up all stuffs. Please bring me back User:Anup SUL. I dont want to have an account on Wiktionary. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 20:59, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The renaming software has changed recently, so we cannot rename an account only on a single wiki. We can only do a global rename across all wikis. The method that you used to get your Anup account on a few other individual wikis no longer exists.
You cannot get a global rename when there is an old account on some wiki that uses the name unless you usurp it. To usurp it, it is necessary to rename Anup to something like Anup(usurp) and that moves all Anup pages to Anup(usurp), which frees the name Anup for you. This is how the renaming process has worked for years, but the recent software change has affected this and now the original Anup account on Wiktionary did not move (because it was unattached to your account). Only your Anup pages on the other wikis moved. I am waiting for some answers from the programmers, but I don’t think it will be possible to delete or move the original Anup on this wiki, and if I can’t move it, then a global rename will not work.
Also, global rename will not permit me to move your other Anup account back to where they were because this original old Anup account already exists here. As I said, if I can find a way to do it, I will. Right now I do not see how it is possible. If we can’t find a way to move everything back, then you will have to select a different name that has not been used before on any wiki. Let’s hope the programmers will have an answer for this. —Stephen (Talk) 21:46, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh, this is going very far! I asked in my request that I want to rename to User:Anup to complete my Single User Login that I already had on multiple projects. I also linked the relevant links on here in my request.
Now I understand the messed-up situation here. You were not aware that moving a local account will move a global account (that's mine). You did a unwanted move resulting out of your misunderstanding or lack of understanding.
As unattached accounts are unaffected the global move, Why couldn't I be renamed back globally to Anup? I'm not sure how local User:Anup account here create any conflict in this case, as it didn't earlier.
I don't want to be victim of nothing. User:Anup is unregisted account now on other projects. Any person may register that. I think, I'll do it and create my SUL again but what..I would lose my all contributions till this date, I've made. That's okay, but I'll get my original username back. Thank you very much! -Anup (usurp) (talk) 22:04, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for wordings of my comment. But I'm frustrated. Sorry, anyway! Anup (usurp) (talk) 22:06, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It won’t permit me to rename back globally to Anup, because it sees the local User:Anup account here and considers the name Anup to be already in use by someone else. The local User:Anup account has to be moved somehow. I think the programmers will be able to help with this. As xeno said, they still have the ability to do a local rename. I have put in a request to have this done. —Stephen (Talk) 22:29, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, the original old Anup account has been moved to Anup (usurped2), and your Anup (usurp) account has been moved globally to User:Anup. It is finished. —Stephen (Talk) 18:50, 6 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: because I'm a guy and there are too many usernames "similar" to Googleman to let me create an account.

You only have three edits. Why don’t you just log out and open a new account under a name that you like better? As for User:Googleman, that is already an existing account on several wikis. His most recent edit was only a year ago on the Persian Wikipedia. If you can contact User:Googleman to let him know that you intend to usurp his name, and if he does not respond, it will still be a lot of work to take that username. His accounts on each wiki where it exists would have to be usurped individually. —Stephen (Talk) 23:49, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I honestly don't care about the Persian wikipedia. I want to edit only on wiktionary, wikipedia and Tamil wikipedia. Can't you just do a local rename so that I can create the SUL after that? Take Alison for instance. She has created an SUL even though there are three other unattached accounts with lots of edits (at the bottom of the page I've linked to). I'm sure you have better things to do but pretty please?--Googlewoman (talk) 12:42, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As of October 2014, Global renamers can no longer do local renames. The only ones who still have access to the local-rename software are the stewards at metawiki. You can try putting in a request there, but I’d say that the other Googleman already owns this account. All of those "Alisons" that you mentioned created their accounts a long time ago, before global accounts even existed. In those days, accounts were all local, but those days are long gone. I think you’re wasting your time with this name. Put in a request at metawiki if you really want to push this...see what they say. —Stephen (Talk) 22:06, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Weird that there are only global renamers on the local wikis while all the local renamers are on meta. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Anyway thanks for taking your time. --Googlewoman (talk) 03:10, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While I formerly attended the University of Michigan and many of my edits were focused on local municipalities and districts, I have extended my edits to a multitude of other topics. I have also been active on non-English Wikipedias (such as Esperanto and French), so "Sonĝanto" (which means "one who dreams" in Esperanto) is much more fitting. I want this done for my global account. Thank you. Michipedian (talk) 17:40, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
