Variant of earlier açubre and açumbre, from Old Spanish, from Andalusian Arabic الثُّمُن (aṯ-ṯúmn), from Arabic ثُمُن (ṯumun) and ثُمْن (ṯumn, “one-eighth”). Doublet of celamín. Cognate with Spanish azumbre.
