editEither from Italian barca (“boat, skiff”)[1] or Late Latin barca (“small watercraft”),[2] ultimately from Ancient Greek βᾶρις (bâris, “type of boat used in Egypt”), itself from Egyptian bꜣjr (“transport ship”). Tosk variant varkë borrowed from Greek βάρκα (várka).
