From Old Occitan [Term?], from Vulgar Latin *catunum, from Latin cata unum. Latin cata derives from Ancient Greek κατά (katá). Cf. the variant form chascun, from Vulgar Latin *cascunum, *casquunum, a conflation of quisque unum ("each one") and *catunum. Compare French chacun (cf. Old French chaün, cadhuna), Catalan cadascun, Italian cadauno, ciascuno.
