From Proto-Finnic *etä, possibly from Proto-Finno-Permic *ečkä, *ečä. Cognate to Finnish etä-, Ingrian etää, edähitee (far), Livonian edeh (forwards, against), Veps edahaks (far), and possibly Moksha [script needed] (ičkəźä, far). See also esi.
