Etymology

From fruta (“fruit”) +‎ -i- +‎ fantástico (“fantastic”). It originated from Froot Loops' ads broadcasted in Latin America in the late 2000s, in which the narrator creates words by prefixing "fruti-" (a pun on "froot") to different adjectives (frutidivertido, frutifantástico).

The noun sense is derived from the adjective and emerged from a meme posted on July 11, 2019 on Facebook.
