grupetto (plural grupettos)

  1. (music) A group of notes played together that are added to the melody, also known as the "turn" or grace notes.
  2. A small group.
  3. (professional road cycling) The trailing group of riders in a stage race that tries to finish the race stage in which it was formed at a time just under the cut-off time for when they would otherwise be disqualified from continuing on to the next stage of the race.

Usage notes edit

Internationally used for the group of riders that forms at the back of mountain stages in cycling road races.
