guolis
Lithuanian
editEtymology
editPerhaps from a Proto-Indo-European *gwel- (“dwelling-place, hole”), and cognate with Latvian guōļa (“nest, lair”). Outside of Baltic, compare Old Armenian կաղաղ (kałał, “hole, hiding-place”) and perhaps Ancient Greek γωλεός (gōleós, “hole”).[1]
