Etymology

Probably from Proto-Uralic *kaća (“young unmarried man”). Originally meant "young", the sense of "main protagonist" developed during the Hungarian language reform taking place in the 18th-19th centuries. Cognates include Northern Mansi хӯсь (hūsʹ, “servant, jack”).
