köszönetet mond
Hungarian
editEtymology
editköszönet (“thanks”) + -et (accusative suffix) + mond (“to say”), literally “to say thanks”
Pronunciation
editVerb
editUsage notes
editThis phrase is the only option when the thing being thanked for is not specified (for example because it is obvious to the listener/s), unless the place of the object is filled with a generic word like minden(t) (“everything”), which makes the verb (meg)köszön grammatically possible. However, köszönetet mond can also be used when the object is made explicit, especially on ceremonial occasions.
Conjugation
edit- For the verb, see mond.
- The inflected noun remains unchanged.
