Etymology

edit

Cognate with Latvian kļava (maple). Outside of Baltic, likely related to Proto-Slavic *klȅnъ (id) (< *kle-nos), Proto-Germanic *hluniz (id) (whence Old Norse hlynr (id)); if inherited rather than borrowed, then the Baltic form traces back to a Proto-Indo-European *kle-wos.[1]
