Borrowed from Old Swedish slagh (whence Swedish slag (“kind, sort”)), from Middle Low German slach, from Proto-West Germanic *slagi, from Proto-Germanic *slagiz (whence also Swedish slag (“hit, punch, blow”), as inherited from Old Norse).
