Inherited from Malay lembu, probably from Proto-Mon-Khmer *lnboʔ (“ox”). Cognate of Javanese ꦊꦩ꧀ꦧꦸ (lembu), Old Javanese lĕmbu, lambu, lamwu (“cow”).
