Inherited from Proto-Philippine *ləbəŋ (to bury/dig excavate), from Proto-Austronesian *ləbəŋ (to bury). Compare Kapampangan albang, Asi yubong, Bikol Central lubong, Aklanon eubong, Cebuano lubong, Hiligaynon lubong, Maranao lebeng, and Western Bukidnon Manobo leveng.
