editFrom Ottoman Turkish مركب (mürekkab, mürekkeb, “compound; ink”),[1][2] from Arabic مُرَكَّب (murakkab), passive participle of رَكَّبَ (rakkaba, “to assemble, to compose, to combine”).[3]
