Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تركیب (terkib, “a mounting, a furnishing with arms and a mount, a joining or compounding together, a composite whole, compound, mixture”),[1][2] from Arabic تَرْكِيب (tarkīb, “installation, putting up”), verbal noun of رَكَّبَ (rakkaba, “to assemble, to compose, to combine”).[3]
