editBorrowed from Greek μουσακάς (mousakás), from Turkish musakka, from Arabic مُسَقَّعَة (musaqqaʕa) or originally from Arabic مُصَقَّعَة (muṣaqqaʕa), from the trilateral root ص ق ع (ṣ-q-ʕ): “to hit, to pound, to smash”. [1]
