  1. (surgery) The surgical procedure of cutting or making an incision in a muscle or muscular organ.
    • 1993, Eugene M. Helveston, Surgical Management of Strabismus: An Atlas of Strabismus Surgery, page 235:
      If a hyperdeviation is present in an eye treated with such a myotomy of a horizontal rectus, the proximal myotomy should begin above to shift the insertion downward and make the horizontal rectus more effective as a depressor.
  2. (dated) An anatomical dissection of a body, especially one used for instructional purposes.
