Etymology edit

nb (“lord, possessor”) +‎ mdw-nṯr (“sacred writings, hieroglyphic script”, literally “god’s word”) in a direct genitive construction, thus literally ‘lord of the god’s word’, i.e. ‘master of sacred writings’.
