Substantivized nominal formation from an unattested *pil-ù-s, from Proto-Indo-European *pl̥h₁-ú-s, from *pleh₁- (to fill) +‎ *-us. Exact cognate with Proto-Indo-Iranian *pr̥Húš (much, very).[1]
