Etymology edit

From Common Turkic *kadïr- (to bend, turn, twist).

Unrelated to Turkish kayırmak (to favor, to protect), which is cognate with Turkish kaygı, Azerbaijani qayğı etc. instead (from Proto-Turkic *kadgu).
