From Old Galician-Portuguese roupa, derived from Gothic 𐍂𐌰𐌿𐍀𐌾𐌰𐌽 (raupjan, “to pluck”), from Proto-Germanic *raupijaną. Cognate with Portuguese roupa, Spanish ropa, English robe, Italian roba.
