Inherited from Ottoman Turkish صارماش طولاش (ṣarmaş dolaş),[1][2] from صارماش (ṣarmaş) +‎ طولاش (dolaş),[3] equivalent to sar- (“to wrap, to wind”) +‎ -ma +‎ -ş +‎ dola- (“to wind around”) +‎ -ş.
