Etymology 1

From Proto-Indo-European *(s)tewp- (to bump, hit), a formation with the prefix sh- from typ. Cognate to Latin stupeō, Ancient Greek τύπτω (túptō, to smite), Sanskrit तोपति (tópati, to hurt).[1]

From Late Proto-Albanian *eśtupit (preverb *eś- < Proto-Indo-European *éǵʰs- (see *éǵh₂)), from Early Proto-Albanian *tupeti, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tupi̯éti (thematic root of *(s)tewp-).[2]
