sisselrot
Norwegian Nynorsk edit
Etymology edit
The first part is probably from German süß (see e.g. German Süßholz (“liquorice”)), influenced by Norwegian female name Sissel (probably referring to Saint Cecilia). The last part is rot (“root”).
Noun edit
sisselrot f (definite singular sisselrota, indefinite plural sisselrøter, definite plural sisselrøtene)
- (botany, usually uncountable) European common polypody, a fern of species Polypodium vulgare
