Borrowed from Malay teraju, from Classical Persian ترازو (tarāzū), from Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬭𐬀.𐬀𐬰𐬎 (tara.azu). Compare Ilocano taradio, Kapampangan talaru, Bikol Central tarayo, Cebuano talayo, Javanese ꦠꦿꦗꦸ (traju), Old Javanese taraju, and Tamil தராசு (tarācu).
