Etymology

edit

Inherited from Vulgar Latin root *turbulus, itself related to *turbulō, from Latin turbō or from turbula, diminutive of turba (disorderly crowd). Alternatively *turbulus derives from an alteration of turbidus, from the related turba, perhaps influenced by turbulentus (stormy, turbulent). Cognate with Aromanian turburi, turbur, Catalan tèrbol, French trouble, Calabrian trúvolo, túrbulu, Sicilian trúbbulu, Lombard tórbor, Albanian tarbulj.
